Background:
Open year-round, the Bed & Breakfast at the William Lewis House is located just off Logan Circle, near the corner of R and 13th Streets. Originally opened as a single house after an extensive ten-year restoration, the William Lewis House expanded in 1999 to include the house next door and the garden between the two houses. The combined grounds provided space to create a wonderfully landscaped courtyard that includes a large sitting porch, hot tub, water garden, limited off-street locked parking and a large deck to connect the two houses.
David and his wonderful and loveable dog, Ruthie, look forward to your arrival and stay in their home.
Bedrooms:
Each bedroom is decorated with a charming blend of family heirlooms and selected antiques. A private telephone with voice mail is provided in each room and can be reached via the Guest Rooms telephone number. Fluffy, white cotton bathrobes in each closet help make trips to the shower and hot tub more convenient. An alarm clock is provided for your wake-up needs. The clocks even automatically reset during time changes. Each room is equipped with a multi-speed ceiling fan and a majority of the rooms are furnished with a writing desk for your convenience. Both houses are, of course, heated and air conditioned.
There is only one small Economy Room with a full bed. Regular Rooms contain a full-sized bed and are more spacious than the Economy Room. Queen Rooms are the larger of the rooms in the B&B and contain a Queen-sized bed. The Deluxe Queen Room is decorated with handmade wallpapers appropriate to the era during which the house was built and is nicely decorated with antique prints and handmade carpets. The Ultra-Deluxe Queen is the most requested room at William Lewis. It is our largest, most spacious and most luxurious room. The room is also decorated with handmade carpets and wallpaper appropriate to the era when the house was built. Each bed is topped with a luxurious feather mattress and 100-percent cotton sheets for a comfortable nights sleep.
Internet Connection:
Secure wireless internet connections are available in each house. Each guest room is also hard-wired for high-speed connections. A computer is available for guest use in the dining room to check email, print boarding passes and to do those last minute changes to presentations.
Television Viewing:
There is a television in the living room of 1309 for guest viewing.
Reservations:
Reservations are required. Reservations can be made two ways: You may book online and receive and instant confirmation or, as always, call and make reservations.
Every effort is made greet you personally upon your arrival and ask that you provide us with your time of arrival to the closest hour. Should your plans change after you make reservations, it is important to call us with your new arrival time. This will help our staff to be fully prepared to greet you, check you in, answer any questions and show you to your room.
The required reservation deposit and payment-in-full upon your arrival can be made by using VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover.
Bathrooms:
In keeping both houses architecturally true, additional baths have not been added. Bathrooms are shared; four full- and two half-baths are available.
Breakfast:
Each day of the week, a continental breakfast is available from very early to late morning. Around 8:30 on Saturday and Sunday mornings, a hot traditional-American breakfast is prepared by your host. It is a great time to meet and talk with other guests. If you have left your “cook for me” sign on your door, a reminder/wake-up call will be made to your room about 20 minutes before breakfast is served.
Happy Hour:
Guests are invited to a social hour every Friday and Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m. A variety of spirits, mixers and snacks are provided to kick off the evening. Beer and wine are available other nights. Happy hour may be offered additional nights depending on occupancy and/or interest.
Parking:
Parking is available on R and surrounding streets, but due to street cleaning and traffic flow during peek hours, please carefully watch the street signs and heed the information. Although limited, we do have a few spaces at the back of the courtyard for a small additional fee of $20 per day. This parking area is locked and secure.
Location:
The William Lewis House is very conveniently located. It is an easy walk to 17th Street and Dupont Circle as well as the U Street Metro station. City buses and taxis are frequent on 14th Street, less than a block away. Great restaurants, eateries, shops and bars can be found between the 17th Street (only 3 blocks away) and Dupont Circle areas.
Coming and Going:
Come and go as you need and wish. Keys are provided to each guest. The front doors of both houses are kept locked; therefore, guests should keep their keys with them at all times. Courtyard doors (at the rear of each house) are secured in the evening. The rear doors to the courtyard area are also secured should the hosts be out during the day and/or evening.
Smoking:
Smoking is permitted in the courtyard area only. Smoking in any guest room or other areas of either house is strictly forbidden.
